Why custom domain Email address
You will sometimes need one custom domain email address if you wanted:
- Have almost inifinite email accounts
- Have own email server
- Use custom email address to filter messages to get better mail managements as, you could label based on email address
And, you could use custom address email to:
- Set up company
- Using in the revenue/resume to making HR feels different
So, How to?
It is simple.
- You own one domain
- A Cloudflare Account
Than, start one agent, and tells AI to config for you.
What Cloudflare configures
Cloudflare Email Routing is a forwarding layer, not a mailbox or your own mail server. It receives mail sent to an address such as hello@example.com and forwards it to an inbox you already use, such as Gmail.
Your domain must use Cloudflare DNS. When you onboard the domain, Cloudflare adds the required MX, SPF, and DKIM DNS records. DNS changes usually take 5–15 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours.
The setup is short:
- Go to Compute → Email Service → Email Routing, choose Onboard Domain, and select your domain.
- Under Destination Addresses, add your existing inbox and open the verification email Cloudflare sends to it.
- Under Routing Rules, create an address such as
work@example.com, choose Send to an email, and select the verified destination. - Test it by sending from a different email account. Check the spam folder if it does not appear.
One inbox, many addresses
Cloudflare allows up to 200 individual routing rules per domain. For more flexibility, enable the catch-all rule: every address at your domain—including shopping@example.com and jobs@example.com—will go to one destination inbox. You can then filter or label messages by the address they were sent to.
You can also enable subaddressing and use addresses such as me+shopping@example.com. The +shopping part is preserved, so it can be used by inbox filters or a Worker.
These are many receiving addresses, not many separate email accounts. Cloudflare Email Routing also does not let you send or reply from the routed address: a normal reply comes from your destination address. Use a separate SMTP provider or Cloudflare Email Sending if you need outbound mail from your domain.
Let an agent do the setup
Cloudflare provides agent setup guides for tools that support Skills and MCP. After connecting and authenticating an agent, a useful prompt is:
Set up Cloudflare Email Routing for example.com.
Forward all incoming addresses to me@gmail.com using a catch-all rule.
Show me every DNS and routing change before applying it.
Do not remove or replace existing mail records without my approval.
The agent can prepare the Cloudflare configuration, but you still need to open the destination-address verification email yourself. Review existing MX records carefully if the domain already uses another mail service.
